How Electronic Commerce is Reshaping
Financial Services

Speaker Paul Barber, ATI Manager, Nationwide Building Society
Summary

Whilst we may occasionally become frustrated with using some of the new technologies, we should not forget that some very advanced technology has become widely accepted by the general public. This is particularly so within financial services where the young and the very old, and those in between, can be seen every day using ATMs, home banking, and more recently, kiosk systems.
Nationwide Building Society is no doubt one of the leaders in introducing these advanced e-commerce systems to the mass market. I am therefore delighted to announce that Paul Barber of the Nationwide, has kindly agreed to speak about their experiences. Details below.
The presentation will cover the Nationwide, its business, and the key drivers directing its strategy.

How the environment was developed will be illustrated by Nationwide's implementation of:

  • Self Service ATMs
  • Interact - their multi award winning, multimedia sales and information kiosk
  • PC Home Banking - the UK's first mass market home banking application
  • The Internet - including the Nationwide Football League site.

Paul will highlight the key lessons learnt, the benefits and reactions for Nationwide, its customers and staff, and will conclude with a glimpse into the future.

Paul Barber Paul Barber is Advanced Technology Implementation Manager at the Nationwide Building Society where he has responsibilities for rolling out and managing performance of advanced technology, including all those mentioned in to-night's presentation.

Paul has worked for Nationwide for 10 years and brings a wealth of experience from both the technology and the "sharp end" of retailing financial services. He was initially in the Retail Branch network as Branch Manager, then Financial sales and then Quality Management before moving to his current position
