Jim
Norton will examine the lessons to be learnt from the 'dotcom
bubble' and will suggest that, despite the current poor sentiment,
the business to consumer (b2c) market will offer profitable
opportunities in the future. He will also suggest that a
savage shakeout is inevitable in business to business (b2b)
markets as weak business models are supplanted by those which
truly create value.
Jim will assess the likely impact of mobile technologies for
delivering e-business services and will close by assessing the
realistic opportunities for pervasive broadband access in the UK.
Jim led the team which produced the Government's blueprint for the
development of e-business "e-business@its.best.uk",
published by the Prime Minister in September 1999. His
current
roles include chairmanship of the 'Research' group of the
Government's Broadband Stakeholders' Forum and adviser to Scottish
Ministers on their 'Digital Scotland' programme.
This event provides an opportunity to question Jim on the
prospects for e-business and e-Government in the UK. There will be
an opportunity for questions.
