eBusiness on Demand

Speaker Mike Howarth,
Director of IBM's Global Services Division.

Summary The presentation is focusing on a new ebusiness service from IBM. Their Chief Executive, Sam Palmisano, has committed $10bn to an "eBusiness on Demand" strategic initiative.

It covers a wide spectrum from utility computing and ASP's through to web services that link whole industries into a new business model.

Following this presentation you should be able to identify
the opportunities and constraints for eBoD for your own
company or your clients.

The presentation on "e-business on demand" will be focused almost exclusively from a business (as opposed to IT) perspective.

IBM and our speaker Mike Howarth think that we are at the start of another "shift" in the way that business and IT interact. Whilst they absolutely do not have all of the answers at such an early stage, they do have a Point Of View on where it came from,  what today's best practice is, and where this shift may proceed.

The presentation will cover:

 - What is "eBOD" - how does it relate to ASP's, Web hosting,
and other forms of outsourcing - what's new and different.
 - Where did it come from - a business perspective on the
development of e-business over the last few years.
 - What are the business and IT drivers / enablers behind
eBOD and what are the benefits of it.
 - Who is using eBOD - who are some early pioneers in
   some selected industry verticals.
 - What are the inhibitors and constraints to eBOD.
 - Where is eBOD going.
 - How do we get from where we are today to an eBOD future.

It will be followed by a floor debate on what the audience thinks of the eBOD ideas and where they think they will progress in the coming years

Feedback

Mike Howarth Mike Howarth has been with IBM for 24 years and currently holds the position of Director of Solutions and Offerings in the IBM Global Services European organisation.  Whilst the early part of his IBM career was spent in Technical and Technical Management positions, the last 11 years has been exclusively spent in Strategy & Marketing positions in the Services divisions of IBM as they developed over time.

He has Henley to thank for the progress that he has made
during this portion of his career since he is one of our alumni himself, having undertaken his Diploma in Management here on the part-time/self-study basis during the early 90's.
